After more than a century of racism faced by Black farmers, the coronavirus loan forgiveness program was supposed to help turn the tide, but a federal judge recently pumped the brakes on the multibillion-dollar debt relief program for farmers of color. The conservative law firm, Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, filed a lawsuit two months ago on behalf of twelve farmers from eight different states claiming the government program discriminates against white farmers. In a move siding with the white farmers, U.S. District Judge William Griesbach in Milwaukee recently issued a temporary restraining order, putting a halt to the program designed to aid disadvantaged farmers and ranchers. Jillian Hishaw, an agricultural lawyer, and Kamal Bell, the CEO of Sankofa Farms, joins Marc Lamont Hill on “Black News Tonight” to discuss the topic.
