So, unfortunately you’ve been in a car accident. What I want to talk to you about today is something you should NOT DO… don’t talk to the insurance company’s representative or adjuster. They will call you. They may come to your house. They may ask you to tell them what happened during the car accident.
What are they trying to do? Are they trying to help you? Actually, NO. They are trying to help who they work for, which is the insurance company. And the insurance company’s goal in all of this is to pay you NO MONEY or as little money as possible. DON’T TALK TO THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER. You have no obligation to talk to them. You may be giving them evidence that hurts your case. So don’t do it.
Instead what you should do is contact a lawyer. You can talk to a lawyer, typically, for no charge, and find out how good your case is. You can usually hire a lawyer without putting any money up front and then that lawyer will talk to the insurance company for you. And that lawyer is not going to say something that damages your case because his job is to maximize the value of your case. Remember that the goal of the insurance company is to minimize your case. That’s what they are paid to do. Talking to them will do nothing to help your case, and can potentially hurt your case. Don’t talk to them; get a lawyer to talk to them for you. That’s the way it should work.
