Pain is subjective and various people perceive it differently. However I would like to say that the dental implant procedure is a very precise and controlled process. However it is more precise than a regular natural tooth extraction. If your situation is straightforward and involves a simple placement of implants, the pain is absolutely managed during the process. However some clinicians do not feel the need to give nerve block. A simple infiltration would do and a couple of days of pain killers after the process takes care of the worries and pain however certain situations demand certain additional processes like a sinus lift or a bone grafting procedure. In such situations, some amount of post operative pain and swelling may be common. Even this is managed if you take the painkillers and medicines prescribed. Having said all this since it is a fairly major dental procedure involving considerable amount of time and effort, it is important to chose your implanatologist who has experience in giving dental care.
