Program summary
The COVID-19 Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) and EIDL Advance programs provide funding to help small businesses recover from the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. There are two types of COVID EIDL funding:
COVID EIDL loan funds may be used for working capital and other normal operating expenses.
These loans are not forgivable and must be repaid
Requirements vary depending on the size of the loan
Loan increases are available until funds are exhausted
The EIDL Advance funds are awarded to existing COVID EIDL applicants who meet certain criteria.
Advances are like grants, but without typical U.S. government grant requirements
EIDL Advances do not need to be repaid
A lot of us applied for Economic Injury Disaster Loans and a lot of us haven’t heard back from the SBA. You’re probably wondering why it’s taking so long for the SBA to respond. So, what’s going on exactly?
I’ve seen that a lot of you are self-employed, small business owners, or maybe you’re freelance writing and you don’t have high hopes of being approved. It’s scary not knowing and it’s annoying to have to wait and find out if you’re approved.
Either way, trying to make sense of this governmental financial relief is challenging even for us who have been through it and approved time and time again. As a one-woman shop, I don’t have employees — or the option of hanging up and calling back later. And so, I continue to wait.
Obviously, not every business may get approved. Being a small business isn’t enough to get the funding you need from the SBA. Here are some common reasons you might be denied…
Maybe you’re not in an SBA approved industry. Things like CONSUMER AND MARKETING COOPERATIVES, DEALERS OF RARE COINS AND STAMPS, gambling, GOVERNMENT-OWNED ORGANIZATIONS, nonprofits, and religious institutions are just a few of the ones not approved for SBA loans.
