Surgical Extraction and Bone Graft

A surgical extraction may be needed to remove a severely broken down tooth. First a gum flap is raised and some bone on the buccal (cheekside) of the tooth is removed. Then the tooth is sectioned into its individual roots and the roots are removed. If you plan on having a dental implant placed, a bone graft is placed in the extraction socket.
