5 Methods:
1. Distraction, Show Feared Object to remove Fear of Unknown (but not in detail if actually scary)
2. Positive Reinforcement – helpful to be detailed with compliment. pt had limited English understanding so I kept it generic with compliments. (i.e. You did a great job staying still like a statue and keeping your mouth open, like a lion yawning in the jungle)
3. Light Touches – desensitize, reassure, distract
4. Tell-Show-Do – CLASSIC METHOD
5. Reassurance, highlighting positives – again, helpful to be detailed. Rewrite the experience, empower the child and his/her accomplishments, sympathize if patient had difficulty, but focus on what they did well on, not the hardships
