One of the available techniques to restore a damaged tooth is the realization of an inlay/onlay.
We can also achieve excellent cosmetic results performing reconstructions using composites and inlays where indicated.
The composite reconstruction is commonly referred to as “filling”.
Inlays/onlays are another way to rebuild teeth that have been affected either by decay or fracture. It consists in performing the reconstruction outside the mouth using casts from the affected tooth, so when it is placed on the tooth fits perfectly, like a puzzle piece.
Firstly, the tooth is prepared eliminating damaged structures.
After that, an impression of the preparation is taken, on which the inlay/onlay will be fabricated using different materials.
This inlay/onlay is polished and the adjustment and contact points are checked.
Once the inlay/onlay is done, the adjustment and occlusion with the opposing teeth are checked in the mouth, releasing any excessive contact on it.
The cavity and the inlay/onlay are then prepared with the corresponding adhesive and polymerized to adhere it to the tooth.
Finally, the contact points are checked and the surface polished.
